Share the wonders of the universe...

Every space telescope is an amazing astronomical achievement, and we are lucky to be able to partake in the discoveries they are unlocking for us. There are still many more hidden secrets of the universe, because the data and images received are still not fully mined, or understood.

The first space telescope that I fell in love with immediately was the telescope SWIFT – what a machine. It was the first real gamma-ray telescope of significant scientific research capacity, able to detect gamma-rays, x-rays and ultraviolet light. The data from that mission is a minefield, and most of it available to the public.

The SWIFT has gone beyond the estimated life expectancy (I believe) but is still reporting gamma-ray bursts (GRB). I stopped going to the site to read GRB reports around 2006, but recently wanting information on a newly announced GRB it seems the SWIFT research content is down. The former SWIFT team members must have moved on, to work with the newer high energy telescopes.

The SWIFT has been a big influence on revealing the biggest forces of the universe but nobody has yet revealed the real secrets of the GRB because they remain; one of the biggest mysteries of our universe.
