ISS-Solar Transit 6th Jan at Parksville Community Park

January 5, 2012 from 6am to 7pm
Hi folks,Just wanted to make you aware that the ISS will be crossing the Sun's face next Friday morning at 9.41. I will be attempting to photograph it through my solar filter.You need to be within 3km of it's 'centre line' which in this case crosses right over the public park/beach in Parksville.I will be heading down there next Friday, probably aiming to be there for about 8.45 to give plenty of time to set up. We just brought a bit of New Mexico with some of the darkest skies in the world.

Checkout this development in New Mexico! Granitegap.com A dedicated astronomy 'preserve'. We've just brought an RV plot down there!  We got  a 99 year lease for a 1/3 acre RV lot + a 1/4 acre lot to build an observatory on. All fully serviced....for just $2500+utility bills! Bargin. This is my retirement pad :-) See More

Visit to Jack Newtons Observatory B&B Osoyoos

So the family vacation this year was in the desert bound Osoyoos and Lake area. I took the opportunity to book us into Jack's Observatory B&B for a couple of nights. Jack if you didn't know is Mr 'SuperNova' Hunter, having discovered 75 of them, well known in the astronomy community, written several books, has his work regularly used by Nasa, and recently got time on the Hubble Space telescope to photography a particular SuperNova!His home, custom built high up on one of the mountains with…See More
