Share the wonders of the universe...

GLOBE at Night program is an international program that asks people around the world to measure their night sky brightness on certain dates and submit their observations online.

This provides awareness of light pollution and also creates a database of observations to track light pollution over time.

The observations are quite simple. You go outside and match one area (Orion) of the night sky to the constellation charts they provide and choose the chart from magnitude 1 to 7 that best describes the what you see.  Then enter the magnitude data along with your longitude and latitude.

Here are the dates for 2012:

January 14-23     February 12-21
  March 13-22       April 11-20
